Doraville, Georgia. Authorities said a suspect was in custody after a shooting at the Honduran embassy just outside of Atlanta on Monday left one person dead and another injured.
The Mexican Foreign Affairs secretary said in a statement shared on social media that the victim was a Mexican national who was employed as a security guard at the consulate.
Around 2:30 p.m., Doraville police responded to a gunshot call and discovered two victims, according to municipal spokesperson Emily Heenan. According to her, one of the victims was pronounced dead at the site, while the other was transported to a hospital for medical attention.
According to Heenan, a suspect was apprehended on the spot and brought to the Doraville police station to be questioned. She gave no details regarding a potential reason for the shooting.
According to Heenan, the incident took place directly outside the consulate’s front entrance. To speak with witnesses and collect evidence, officers stayed on the site.
Heenan stated that because authorities were still getting in touch with relatives, she was unable to provide any other details on the victims or the alleged gunman.
The Mexican government has requested an open investigation and offered assistance to the Mexican citizen’s family and local authorities.
