3 dead, 1 injured in fiery Tesla Cybertruck crash in Bay Area, police say

Early on Wednesday morning, a Tesla Cybertruck crashed in the Bay Area of California, killing three people and badly injuring another, according to authorities.

Piedmont Police Chief Jeremy Bowers told a press conference that when first responders got to the scene in Piedmont, a suburb east of Oakland, the car was still on fire.

According to him, officers tried to put out the fire, but it was too strong for the extinguishers to work. After after, the Piedmont Fire Department showed up and extinguished the fire.

Three persons tragically died as a result of this collision. Bowers added that one person was transported to a nearby hospital after suffering severe injuries.

At 3:08 a.m., police received an iPhone notification about the collision, and two minutes later, while officers were already on the scene, someone dialed 911, he said.

Every effort was made by the men and women who answered this summons. It’s also devastating. However, he noted, the destruction is nothing compared to what these families are going through this morning, the day before Thanksgiving.

Out of consideration for the families, police stated, neither the victim nor the survivor have been named. All four of the passengers in the car were home for the holidays from college, according to NBC Bay Area. There are flowers at the spot.

According to Bowers, a neighboring driver who noticed the burning automobile managed to get to it and save the injured man.

Aileen DeSoto, a friend of the hospitalized guy’s family, told NBC Bay Area that the man had surgery and was recuperating.

Bowers stated that it was conceivable that the victims had attended a local event, but the reason of the crash is still being investigated in conjunction with the California Highway Patrol. He went on to say that speed had a role in the collision and that there was no high danger of traffic accidents at the location.

Fire Chief Dave Brannigan informed the press conference that firemen had been able to put out the fire fast, therefore it was doubtful that the Cybertruck’s lithium battery was the source of the fire.

The cause of the fire will be looked at, he added.

“This shouldn’t happen to any kid,” Sandy Martin, a middle school teacher to several of the victims, told NBC Bay Area. But it just gets worse when you know them.

According to NBC Bay Area, Piedmont will proceed with its annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot, a five-kilometer run or walk, although it will be preceded by a moment of silence and Mayor Jen Cavenaugh’s statements regarding the incident.
