5 dead after multiple shootings at 3 different homes in Kansas

Five people are dead after multiple shootings that took place in three different homes in Wichita, Kansas.

Just before 6 p.m. on Sunday, a 911 call reported a shooting on the 1700 block of Santa Fe, according to

NBC News affiliate in Wichita KSN

.

Officers responding to the residence found a man dead from an apparent gunshot wound, the Wichita Police Department said in a statement to NBC News.

Shortly after, officers conducted a follow-up at another residence in the 1900 block of S. Laura, just over a half a mile away from the initial shooting scene. There, officers said they discovered three additional victims with apparent gunshot wounds, the statement said.

Police then canvassed the neighborhood. One officer looked through the window of another residence and discovered what appeared to be another victim in the living room, according to the WPD. Police then forced entry and found another man dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

“At this time, we believe all victims are known to each other, and there is no outstanding suspect or ongoing threat to the community,” WPD spokesperson Andrew Ford said in the statement. “While our investigation is still in its preliminary stages, we suspect that one of the victims may be the possible shooter.”

WPD Chief Joe Sullivan told KSN that officers have a “strong direction” on which victim was the shooter, but it’s too early in the investigation for them to officially make a statement on who they believe that is.

Police said that this is an ongoing investigation, and information may change as the investigation progresses.
