According to Argentinian prosecutors on Monday, One Direction singer Liam Payne was unable to keep his balance in a hotel lobby due to “consumption of various substances,” which caused him to fall and die needlessly.
In relation to Payne’s deadly fall at the Casa Sur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16, authorities said five individuals—including a friend of Payne’s and four hotel staff—are facing criminal accusations.
Charges against Payne’s companion, the hotel manager, and the hotel receptionist were approved by a judge. They were all charged with “negligent homicide,” according to the prosecution.
The prosecution claimed that the defendants’ actions “caused the death of another” by exhibiting “imprudence, negligence, lack of skill in their art or profession or failure to observe the regulations or duties in their charge.”
The late musician allegedly received drugs from two other hotel staff members, who were also charged.
The prosecution statement states that the hotel manager, who went by the initials GAM, “noticed the state of health” of Payne, “who was unable to stand due to the consumption of various substances,” when she was in the lobby.
Room 310 had a “balcony that, given the detailed situation, was a source of risk,” and the hotel manager “allowed, at least by omission, for Payne to be taken to his room moments before his death.”
The prosecution claimed that the reception manager, who went by the initials ERG, saw Payne’s precarious condition and ought to have kept “him safe in an area without sources of danger, in company and until he could be provided with medical care.”
The singer’s personal representative, RLN, was traveling with him. According to the prosecution, RLN is “criminally responsible” for Payne’s death because he failed “to comply with his duties of care, assistance and aid that he had.”
The victim was accused of receiving “cocaine in exchange for money” from a waiter (who was only known as BNP) and another hotel employee (who was named EDP).
