8-year-old boy dies after a statue falls on him at Arizona hotel

According to the Phoenix Police Department, an 8-year-old boy died after a statue fell on him outside the opulent Arizona Biltmore hotel.

Five days after the youngster was hospitalized after being hit in the head by the statue, his death was declared on Monday. His identity was kept a secret.

Police said they ruled out foul play, but they were still investigating Tuesday how the statue came apart and how the youngster was struck by it.

The 39-acre resort, which spans the Phoenix Mountain Preserve and features views of mountain ranges and palm palms, includes the Biltmore hotel, which was created by architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

One of the 19 “solemn sprites” statues on the property, which are claimed to represent legendary characters that symbolize the natural environment, was the statue that fell.

In a statement released on Tuesday, resort management expressed their cooperation with investigators and said they were “deeply saddened” by the family’s loss.

During this trying time, we respect their right to privacy and wish them peace, the statement read.
