The renowned rock band My Chemical Romance’s longtime drummer, Bob Bryar, passed away. He was forty-four.
Although a band representative confirmed Bryar’s death in a statement provided to NBC News, no cause of death or any details surrounding his passing were immediately known.
“The band asks for your patience and understanding as they process the news of Bob s passing,” said a spokeswoman.
The news of the death was initially reported by TMZ.
Between 2004 and 2010, when My Chemical Romance released their successful album “The Black Parade” in 2006, Bryar was the band’s longest-serving drummer.
While on tour in 2004, he met the members of My Chemical Romance while working as a sound engineer for The Used.
Shortly after My Chemical Romance’s second album, “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge,” was released, he would depart the tour with The Used to take Matt Pelissier’s place as drummer, according to Billboard.
I quit a great touring job where I was in charge of sound and tour management. In a 2016 interview, Bryart told the Alternative Press, “I quit that job to join a band that was filthy, had s—– gear, a smashed-up, smoking, death-trap van, and was poor.” They also had a foul odor. When I got the offer, I was overjoyed.
He went on: I thought [MCR] were unique and I wanted in long before we recorded Welcome To The Black Parade. I wanted to be able to shred with the band every night and contribute to their evolution.
Bryar told the outlet that performing at Madison Square Garden with My Chemical Romance was one of his favorite memories of the band.
He remarked, “I still can’t believe that was for real, and I never thought that would ever happen to me.”
According to Billboard, Bryar collaborated with the group on “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys,” their fourth album, but departed before it was released in 2010.
Bryar told the Alternative Press that he hadn’t listened to “The Black Parade” in a decade because the “memories that come along with listening to it are too much for me.”
“There is not a single My Chem item in my home. In 2016, he told the outlet that he didn’t “need to be bummed out” every day because he didn’t “hear or see things relating to something that I thought would last forever.”
In 2021, Bryar announced his retirement from drumming, according to E! News.
At the time, he tweeted, “I have too many wrist issues, I’m too old, I’m too fat, and it’s time for something new,” according to radio network ABC Audio.
After splitting up in 2013, My Chemical Romance reunited in 2019 in the absence of Bryar. The “Long Live The Black Parade” tour is scheduled to take them back on stage in North America next summer.
