Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence carted off field after taking illegal hit vs. Texans

In addition to causing an ejection and a disagreement between the Jacksonville and Houston Texans players on Sunday, an illegal hit on Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence resulted in the player being taken off the field.

In the Week 13 game, Lawrence had started a feet-first slide to finish his play after running for a first down with four minutes remaining before halftime. Azeez Al-Shaair, a linebacker for Houston, kept running toward Lawrence and struck the quarterback with his forearm, slamming his head backward before it bounced off the ground. According to NFL regulations, a defender must draw up and avoid hitting a sliding player.

As soon as the hit happened in front of the Jacksonville sideline, Al-Shaair’s teammates rushed to confront him. Lawrence stayed on the field, still on his back, as medical staff attended to him. Houston teammates then went in to defend their buddy as well, resulting in a skirmish that spilled out of bounds.

The team declared Lawrence out for the remainder of the game due to a head injury when he got up and was carried off the field in a cart.

To jeers across the Florida stadium, Al-Shaair was led off the field by club officials after being ejected for the hit.
