Two Arrested for Shoplifting at Local Runnings Store in Ellicott

(WNY News Now) After trying to steal goods from a nearby Runnings store in Ellicott, two Lakewood individuals are charged with petit larceny.

Lakewood, New York. Andre M. Guzda, 18, and Braxton M. Achterberg, 27, both of Lakewood, were taken into custody by the Town of Ellicott Police on November 26, 2024, on suspicion of petit larceny. The event happened at the Runnings store, which is situated at 720 Fairmount Avenue in Ellicott, at around 7:00 p.m.

Guzda and Achterberg were observed putting store products into the men’s restroom, according to police reports. They allegedly planned to steal the things, hiding them inside Guzda’s coat once they were inside. After the employees of the store alerted the authorities, Ellicott cops arrived on the scene right away.

After being taken into custody, the two suspects were given appearance tickets. They are expected to respond to the charge when they appear in Town of Ellicott court later. The accused is deemed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, just like everyone else who is accused of a crime.
