Westfield Man Arrested for Aggravated DWI After Tail Lamp Violation

(WNY News Now) After his car was pulled over for a tail lamp violation on November 23rd, a Westfield man’s blood alcohol content was found to be more than three times the legal limit, leading to several charges, including aggravated DWI.

William E. Zachary was allegedly intoxicated when Westfield Police arrived at the scene of an altercation at 238 E Main St. on the evening of November 23, 2024, at around 9:41 PM. Zachary was traveling on E Main St. without his tail lamps on, which is against the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law, when the officers first spoke with the complaint at another location.

Zachary was immediately subjected to standardized field sobriety testing and a traffic stop. He was taken into custody and taken to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office for additional processing after failing the tests. His blood alcohol content (BAC) was 0.24%, significantly higher than the legal limit of 0.08%, according to a follow-up test.

Because Zachary’s blood alcohol content was more than 0.18%, he is charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI), aggravated DWI, and no or inadequate tail lamps. He has an upcoming appearance at Westfield Village Court after being given appearance tickets.

The Westfield Police Department carried out the inquiry. The accused is deemed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, just like everyone else who is accused of a crime.
