Eminem’s mother, Debbie Nelson, dies at 69

Rapper Eminem’s representative announced to NBC News that his mother, Debbie Nelson, has passed away. Her age was 69.

According to TMZ, Nelson passed away on Monday night from lung cancer in a Missouri hospital.

Early in his career, Nelson’s music frequently emphasized the tense relationship between him and her kid. In “My Name Is” and “Cleanin’ Out My Closet,” two of his best-known songs, he accuses his mother of drug abuse and mistreatment.

According to Variety, Nelson successfully sued her son, Marshall Mathers, for defamation in 1999, winning $10 million. In an effort to redeem her identity, she also wrote a book in 2008 called “My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem,” in response to her son’s songs.

“‘My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem’ is her rebuttal to these widely believed lies a poignant story of a single mother who wanted the world for her son, only to see herself defamed and shut out when he got it,” according to a book’s back cover.

Nelson stated in an interview with “TODAY” following the book’s release that she had no plans to sue Mathers. Nelson hired a lawyer because Eminem and his ex-wife were residing in his house, which was about to be repossessed. After learning who her son was, the attorney filed a defamation lawsuit.

No further comments were shared by an Eminem spokesperson.
