Warrant Arrest Leads to Cattaraugus County Jail for Freedom Resident

(WNY News Now) David L. Smith, 51, who was wanted on a bench warrant out of Cattaraugus County Court, was arrested following a traffic check on Cole Road in Ashford.

A routine traffic stop on Cole Road in the Town of Ashford on the afternoon of November 22, 2024, resulted in the arrest of 51-year-old Freedom, New York resident David L. Smith. The arrest was made in relation to an active bench warrant issued by Cattaraugus County Court, according to Sheriff Eric A. Butler.

Smith was apprehended without incident after police officers verified his identity during the stop at around 3:45 PM. Authorities had targeted Smith for the bench warrant, and he was quickly taken out of his car and taken into custody.

Smith is being kept at the Cattaraugus County Jail until he appears in court again after being taken there. The accused is deemed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, just like everyone else who is accused of a crime.
