(WNY News Now) To increase awareness and spur change in the battle against gender-based violence, the Zonta Club of Jamestown joins forces with Mayor Kimberly Ecklund for 16 Days of Activism.
All Zonta clubs and districts, including the Zonta Club of Jamestown, are encouraged to participate in the Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women campaign and to take local, national, and international actions to change gender-based attitudes and behaviors and to influence the creation and implementation of laws in order to end violence against women. This is done during the annual 16 Days of Activism.
November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and December 10, Human Rights Day, are the dates of the 16 Days of Activism.
Kimberly Ecklund, the mayor of Jamestown, was asked by the local club to help spread the word this year. In the lobby of Jamestown City Hall, she posed with club members and gave a proclamation for the 16 Day of Activism. According to a remark from Mayor Ecklund, the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an important chance to show support for women and girls around the world who suffer from the terrible effects of violence. We at Jamestown are dedicated to bringing about significant change, increasing awareness, and making sure that every woman and girl may live in equality, safety, and dignity. We can end the cycle of abuse and create a future where women prosper if we work together.
Additionally, the group decorated a tree in Baker Park, put up exhibits at local libraries, and put up yard signs.
