NBC News was informed by a family member that comedian Kabir Singh had passed away. His age was 39.
According to his sister, Sonya Singh, he died while sleeping in his Pleasanton, California, Bay Area home. On Wednesday, he was discovered by their mother.
Sonya Singh told NBC News, “My mom, who lives with him, tried to wake him up, and he didn’t wake up.”
She stated that her brother had congenital cardiac condition but that the cause of death is yet unknown. According to his sister, Kabir Singh has undergone two surgeries in the past because of his ailment.
Of his three siblings, Kabir Singh was the youngest. According to Sonya Singh, he would have turned 40 on December 30.
According to her, “We were planning his birthday,”
Most famously, Singh participated in NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” in 2021 and advanced to the semifinals before losing. NBCUniversal, the parent corporation of NBC News, is the owner of NBC.
Singh joked about remembering passwords and watching documentaries about serial killers during his brief “AGT” audition. All four judges—Sofa Vergara, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and Simon Cowell—said “yes” to him.
Prior to his audition, Singh declared, “I would be the happiest person in the world if I were the first stand-up comedian to win this.”
“AGT” described Singh as “a talented comedian” who brought “his undeniable humor” to the stage in a statement to NBC News on Friday.
“He brought joy and laughter to so many and his incredible talent will be missed,” said the statement.
The comic, who was born in Portland, Oregon, also worked on the popular Fox series Family Guy and made appearances on Comedy Central’s Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand Up Revolution.
According to Sonya Singh, “he was very well loved in the comedy community,” CNN reported. “He helped a lot of people and he put a lot of people on stage and loved working in that field.”
Early in November, Singh gave one of his last comedic appearances at the Deaf Puppy Comedy Club in Manteca, California.
After learning of Singh’s passing, the Manteca comedy club paid tribute to him on Instagram, describing him as “one of the best.”
“He absolutely destroyed every time he performed in Manteca,” the caption stated. “You lifted up the 209 comedy scene when there was none, and will always be our Champion.”
