Two additional images of a suspect in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson were made public by the additional York Police Department on Saturday.
The images are the most recent in a succession of ones taken by the NYPD of the same person who is wanted for interrogation in connection with the murder on Wednesday.
One of the pictures shows the individual wearing a black hoodie and a blue medical mask through the partition of what looks to be a taxi in New York City.
Wearing the same blue mask and a dark-colored puffer jacket with the hood drawn over his head, the man outside the window is seen walking alongside the automobile in the other image, which was taken from inside a car.
Investigators have reportedly been able to follow some of his taxi travels, according to the NYPD.
Three people familiar with the inquiry told NBC News that the person of interest has not yet been identified as the manhunt for the shooter and the investigation into Thompson’s murder continued into Saturday.
The FBI, Crime Stoppers, and the NYPD are offering a total of $60,000 in prize money for information that results in the gunman’s arrest.
According to officials, Thompson was shot outside the Hilton Midtown hotel in New York on Wednesday morning while he was traveling to the investor meeting for UnitedHealth Group.
Thompson was wounded in the right leg and at least once in the back. He was not on a security trip.
Joseph Kenny, the NYPD chief of detectives, stated earlier this week that it does seem the victim was particularly targeted based on the data we now have. We do not yet know why, though.
Jessica Tisch, the commissioner of police in New York, stated on Wednesday that the attack was a planned, premeditated targeted assault.
According to authorities, the phrases “deny, delay, and depose” were inscribed on shell casings discovered at the scene.
The gray rucksack that the person of interest was allegedly carrying at the time of the murder was also discovered by police in Central Park. Two top law enforcement sources informed NBC News that investigators were investigating if the luggage was indeed the same.
According to two people involved with the investigation, police located a smartphone close to the site, and detectives are attempting to utilize it to get further information about the man’s contacts and whereabouts.
No firearm was discovered in the backpack, according to four people with knowledge of the inquiry who spoke to NBC News on Saturday. Although three people claimed to have found a jacket in the bag, it is still unknown if this is the same jacket the shooter was wearing at the time of the incident.
The man being sought in connection with the murder may have fled the state, according to authorities.
The individual may be seen on camera riding a bike in Central Park before hailing a cab to the Port Authority bus stop near the George Washington Bridge, Kenny told reporters.
To find out if he boarded a bus from there and, if so, which one, investigators are searching for further footage.
Three senior law enforcement officials with knowledge of the investigation told NBC News that police suspect he may have taken a Greyhound bus from Atlanta to New York City last month. They stated the bus made multiple stops before arriving in New York on Nov. 24.
Both Atlanta police and Greyhound are helping with the investigation, and officials in New York are trying to determine whether they can identify a name used for the journey on Nov. 24.
At a briefing on Friday, the NYPD stated that the individual had slept at a hostel on Manhattan’s Upper West Side while in New York. Investigators are trying to find out if he rented a hotel there using a phony ID and paid in cash.
According to the NYPD, he only took off his mask to bite into his food, and his roommates at the hostel said that he wore it the entire time.
Paulette Thompson, Thompson’s wife, told NBC News on Wednesday that her husband had been getting threats, but she wasn’t sure what they were.
She claimed that there had been some threats. Basically, a lack of coverage, I guess? Details are unknown to me. All I know is that he claimed that some individuals had been threatening him.
