The well-known musician and businessman Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, was charged on Sunday in a civil case with raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000, allegedly with Sean Diddy Combs.
The incident occurred after she was driven to an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty, according to the anonymous complainant, who went by Jane Doe.
Combs was named as a defendant in the lawsuit when it was first filed in the Southern District of New York in October. Carter was added when it was refiled on Sunday.
NBC News has contacted Combs reps, Jay-Z’s publicist, and his lawyer, Alex Spiro, for comment. Tony Buzbee, a Texas-based lawyer who brought the lawsuit, remained silent.
In recent months, Buzbee has accused Combs of rape and violence in a number of cases, all of which have been filed without naming the parties. For the first time, he has named another well-known defendant in this lawsuit.
Combs has rejected all of the charges against him on several occasions. He was charged with racketeering, sex trafficking, and other crimes by federal prosecutors in New York in September. He was denied bail for the third time last month and is presently being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center. May 5 is the date of his trial.
During a court hearing last month, prosecutors stated that they may file a superseding indictment against Combs, which would include additional charges.
According to the lawsuit, Doe was raped by Combs and Carter during a house party after the MTV Video Music Awards in New York in 2000 when she was thirteen years old.
According to the lawsuit, she was dropped off at the VMAs at Radio City Music Hall by a friend. She tried to get into the show or an after-party by approaching different limousine drivers without a ticket.
According to the lawsuit, one driver informed her that she was the kind of person Diddy was seeking for and that he worked for Combs. The lawsuit claimed that after he drove Carter and Combs, he asked her to a party after the event and instructed her to go back to his car later that night.
According to the claim, the driver later picked her up and, after twenty minutes, pulled up to a white house with a U-shaped driveway. In order to access the party, which the lawsuit claimed was full of celebrities and people using cocaine and marijuana, she was had to sign what she thought was a non-disclosure agreement upon arrival and was not given a copy.
According to the claim, she was given a drink that made her feel dizzy, queasy, and as though she should lie down. She entered a room to take a nap.
Combs exclaimed, “You are ready to party!” as he and Carter entered the room shortly after, according to the suit.
She then claims that while Combs and another unidentified female celebrity looked on, Carter undressed her, held her down, and sexually assaulted her. She claims that as Carter and the woman watched, Combs also sexually assaulted her.
According to the lawsuit, she was able to stop Combs from performing oral sex by striking him in the neck, which caused him to stop.
The lawsuit claims that she grabbed her clothing and fled after the alleged assault. After driving to a gas station, she called her dad.
Unspecified damages are what the accuser is requesting. The Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act of New York provides the legal basis for the complaint.
