The witches of Oz might win big when the 82nd Golden Globes nominees are revealed early on Monday.
A number of nominations, including best musical or comedy film, seem to be headed for Wicked. Renowned new films like Anora, Emilia Prez, and A Real Pain are probably going to join it in that category. (Universal Pictures, a division of NBCUniversal, the parent company of NBC News, distributed Wicked.)
The science fiction extravaganza Dune: Part Two, the architecture-themed postwar epic The Brutalist, and the thriller Conclave, which is set in the Vatican, are the front-runners in the race for best drama picture. (Focus Features, another NBCUniversal division, distributed Conclave.)
In contrast to their Oscar colleagues, Globes voters also recognize television accomplishments. Expect to see popular shows like Abbott Elementary on ABC, Hacks on Max, and Shgun on FX in the competition for best comedy and drama series. (The last two programs won the highest accolades at the September Primetime Emmy Awards.)
Actors Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut are scheduled to reveal the nominations in all 27 categories at approximately 8:15 a.m. ET. Stand-up comedian Nikki Glaser will host the awards presentation, which will air live on CBS and the streaming service Paramount+ on January 5.
The Carol Burnett Award, which celebrates someone who has made exceptional achievements to television on or off screen, will be given to Ted Danson, a small-screen mainstay, at this year’s Globes in addition to the customary parade of trophies and speeches.
Three-time Globe winner Danson is most renowned for his work on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, CBS’s Becker, and NBC’s Cheers. His newest show, A Man on the Inside on Netflix, has the potential to receive nominations in the Globes’ best series categories.
