Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is the latest lawmaker targeted by a bomb threat

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., stated that she is safe after receiving an emailed bomb threat on Monday that was directed at her by her local police department.

An email with a bomb threat was sent to me by the assistant chief of police for the Rome Police Department. Greene wrote in a poston X, “I’m so grateful to every member of the Rome Police Department for your swift and professional response in ensuring my safety.”

According to a statement issued by Greene’s office, the Rome, Georgia, congresswoman’s local police department sent a bomb squad to her residence to make sure she was safe. In her post on X, Greene posted a video of what looked to be a bomb squad member searching her mailbox for an explosive device.

After ruling out an immediate danger, the Rome Police Department sent the Floyd County Bomb Squad to Greene’s residence and handed the case over to the FBI, according to Rome Police Department spokesperson Kelly Madden. The FBI acknowledged that it was helping with the inquiry.

The agency released a statement saying, “As it is an ongoing investigation, we have no further information at this time.” “The FBI remains vigilant and continues to work closely with our state and local partners to mitigate threats to the public, including threats to specific persons.”

A request for comment on Monday was not immediately answered by the U.S. Capitol Police. The threat against Greene comes after a slew of threats against members of Congress that turned out to be untrue.

The bomb threat was directed at Representative Lori Trahan, D-Mass.Threats against their residences were reported to at least seven other Democratic MPs on Saturday.

Screenshots of the email threat, which claimed that the lawmaker’s inbox contained a pipe bomb, were included in Greene’s office’s statement. NBC News has not independently verified the screenshots.

Since joining the Congress in 2021, Greene has been the target of numerous swatting events.
