With a Disney+ relaunch, “Malcom in the Middle” will return to television.
“They re back!” was the description for a series of Instagram pictures that the streaming service used to reveal four new episodes.
Jane Kaczmarek, Bryan Cranston, and Frankie Muniz will all return to their leading parts in the Disney+ series.
The comedy will follow Malcom (Muniz) and his daughter as they become “drawn into the family’s chaos” after his parents, Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek), insist that Malcom attend their 40th wedding anniversary party, according to Variety, which cited the official logline.
According to Variety, Linwood Boomer, the creator of the original series, contributed to the relaunch and will be an executive producer and writer. There is no definite date for the premiere.
There were 151 episodes in the first series, which ran on Fox from 2000 to 2006. During its six-year run, it received seven Emmy honors.
Disney Branded Television President Ayo Davis stated, “‘Malcolm in the Middle’ is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart, and relatability,” Variety reported.
“Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again,” Davis said. “With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.”
“Malcom!” was yelled by Cranston and Kaczmarek in character in the Disney+ Instagram picture. To which Muniz replies, “Yes. You’re heard. I’m on my way!”
On a another slide, Cranston mentioned that the first episode of the program aired 25 years ago and that he is so eager for the remake that he “may have peed.” Only a bit.
Since the show’s series finale eighteen years ago, Muniz said he has been waiting for this moment and is eager to see what Malcom and his family are doing now.
“What a delight that I get to yell at that kid again!” expressed Kaczmarek’s excitement as well.
