Rochester Business Owner Admits to Tax Evasion, Faces Prison Time

(WNY News Now) ROCHESTER, N.Y. U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross said today that 72-year-old Victor, New York resident Scott Reeves, owner of Fussy Contracting Inc., has entered a guilty plea to tax evasion. A $250,000 fine and a maximum term of five years in prison are associated with the charge.

From 2017 until 2022, Reeves’ roofing company, also called Mr. Fussy, was based on Portland Avenue in Rochester.Even though Reeves made a lot of money during this time, he neglected to submit his personal and business income tax forms. As a result, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) lost $248,394 in taxes.

According to the prosecution, Fussy Contracting made $5,398,008.27 in gross receipts throughout the course of the six-year period. Reeves kept $1,538,215 after subtracting labor and material costs and check cashing fees. He concealed his income and evaded taxes by using a local check-cashing service instead of completely depositing these profits into corporate accounts.

Acting Executive Special Agent in Charge Harry Chavis of the New York Field Office oversaw the IRS Criminal inquiry Division’s inquiry.

Chief U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford will sentence Reeves on March 3, 2025.
