Nearly a year after the monarch started his fight with cancer, a Buckingham Palace source told NBC News on Friday that King Charles III’s therapy is doing well.
Although there has been progress, the source stressed that King’s cancer is still under control, thus his treatment cycle would continue into the following year.
In February, King Charles’ cancer diagnosis was revealed by Buckingham Palace, just eighteen months into his reign. According to the statement, Charles, 76, decided to disclose his health status in part to help with public awareness for all cancer patients worldwide.
No more information about his condition has been made public.
After his treatment improved, he took on official duties as king in April.
During his tenure as Prince of Wales, Charles was the heir apparent to the throne of the United Kingdom with the longest tenure. On September 8, 2022, he ascended to the throne after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, passed away.
Kate, the Princess of Wales, spent over two weeks in the hospital in January 2024 for abdominal surgery for an undisclosed reason. In a recorded video message, she stated that although first tests did not show malignancy, additional testing showed the presence of cancer.
She broke her silence as widespread rumors grew with the uncommon video statement, which was her first public admission of her health issues.
According to Prince William, 2024 has been difficult since both his father and wife received cancer diagnoses.
It has been terrible. Last month, William told Sky News, NBC News’ international partner, that it had likely been the most difficult year of his life.
Kate said in September that she had finished her chemotherapy treatment and would resume a reduced public appearance schedule for the remainder of the year.
The royal family’s health is still questionable because Charles’ wife, Queen Camilla, 77, missed last month’s Remembrance festivities because of a chest infection.
On Friday, King Charles and Queen Camilla will meet with local community volunteers, youth, emergency services, and religious leaders in Waltham Forest, east London, as part of their final significant public appearance before Christmas.
After that, they’re going to Norfolk, in the East of England, to host Christmas at Sandringham Estate.
Although they were not present at the pre-Christmas meal at Buckingham Palace on Thursday, the Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, are anticipated to attend the Christmas festivities in Norfolk.
Additionally absent from Thursday’s festivities was Prince Andrew, who was convinced by his ex-wife, Sarah, Duchess of York, that it wasn’t appropriate for him to join the rest of his family at this time. In an interview on Thursday, Emily Nash, Royal editor of Hello magazine, told NBC News.
This week, Andrew, Charles’ scandal-plagued younger brother, made headlines once more after a High Court decision said that he had developed an unprecedented level of trust with a guy who was suspected of being a Chinese spy. After concerns were voiced, Andrew stopped all communication with the person, according to a statement from his office.
After his attorneys were unable to convince a U.S. judge to dismiss a civil complaint alleging him of sexual abuse, Andrew retracted his royal patronages and military affiliations in January 2022. Virginia Giuffre, who claims Andrew sexually assaulted her when she was 17, eventually received a sizable payment from him.
Giuffre has long claimed that she was trafficked to Andrew in the 1990s by infamous pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and his confidante, British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, who forced her to have sex with him. After a jury found that Maxwell, 62, was instrumental in enlisting and preparing underage females for sexual assault by Epstein, she was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Andrew has refuted the accusation on multiple occasions.
According to Nash, Andrew has lost all semblance of a public life and career, and he is now forced to skip intimate family events.
Although he is currently in the center of the storm, she said, it is still feasible that he may eventually attend family get-togethers.
