Collision on Route 60 Leads to Gasoline Spill and Road Closure in Sinclairville

(WNY News Now) On December 21, a car accident on Sinclairville’s Route 60 results in serious damage and a gasoline spill, forcing road closures and emergency response.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a car accident on Route 60 close to Bloomer Street in Sinclairville, New York, on December 21, 2024, at around 10:15 AM. Two cars were involved in the collision: a tractor trailer driven by 49-year-old Michael Phillips of Marion and a Honda CRV driven by 22-year-old Aurora Wilson of Sinclairville.

In the Village of Sinclairville, Wilson tried to turn left into Bloomer Street while she was heading south on Route 60, according to deputies. She unfortunately pulled in front of Phillips’ tractor trailer by failing to yield to oncoming traffic. Both cars sustained significant damage in the ensuing accident.

There was enough damage to the tractor trailer carrying gasoline for a large fuel leak. Emergency agencies, including the Department of Environmental Conservation, Chautauqua County Fire Police, many local fire companies, Chautauqua County HAZMAT, and Chautauqua County EMS, responded quickly to this. In order to limit the gasoline spill and guarantee the safety of the region, these crews moved swiftly.

Wilson was sent to UPMC Chautauqua to receive minor medical care. The truck driver, Phillips, was not hurt in the collision.

The collision resulted in the closure of Sinclairville’s Route 60 between Kimballstand and Sylvester Road. The road will be closed for the majority of the day, according to authorities, while the damaged vehicles are being removed. Wilson subsequently received traffic tickets for the collision.
