Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell goes down with apparent knee injury

Tank Dell, the premier receiver for the Houston Texans, appeared to have a horrific knee injury during the third quarter of Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Several of Dell’s colleagues were crying on the sidelines due to the sad nature of the injury that forced him to be taken off the field.

Dell’s 30-yard touchdown reception from quarterback CJ Stroud, which brought the Texans (9-5) within 17-16 on the scoreboard, was the play on which the injury happened and which Houston originally celebrated. However, teammate Jared Wayne, who had also been running a deep route toward the end zone, struck Dell close to the knee as he grabbed the pass in the back of the end zone.

Before being placed on a stretcher, Dell received prompt medical attention. During the play’s aftermath, Stroud, who referred to Dell as his best friend on the Texans squad the previous season, broke down in tears. After missing his rookie season in 2023 due to a broken leg, this could be Dell’s second serious leg injury.

The focus of the entire week had been on whether Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (13-1) would play after sustaining an ankle injury just six days prior, thus Saturday’s game had been characterized by injuries for a long time. But in the first quarter, Mahomes got the start and even ran for a 15-yard touchdown.
