Eugene Spector, a U.S. citizen, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by a Russian court for espionage, according to a report released by Russia’s main news agency, RIA, on Tuesday.
Spector, who was born in Russia and later immigrated to the United States, was charged with espionage in August and is currently serving a 3-1/2-year sentence in Russia for bribes.
According to official media, he was the chairman of the board of Medpolymerprom Group, a business that specialized in cancer-curing medications, prior to his arrest in 2021.
In his initial court appearance, Spector entered a guilty plea to aiding in the bribery of a former deputy prime minister of Russia’s aide.
