Trump says H-1B visa program is ‘great’ amid MAGA feud over tech workers

According to the New York Post, President-elect Donald Trump expressed his support for the H-1B worker visa program in response to the ongoing dispute among MAGA backers.

Trump has long been a fan of the visas, he told the New York Post. Employers can temporarily recruit non-U.S. citizens for highly skilled positions under the H-1B visa program.

My properties have a large number of H-1B visas. I have always supported H-1B. I’ve made extensive use of it. He said, “It’s a great program,” as reported by the publication.

A request for comment regarding which Trump properties have employees on H-1B visas was not immediately answered by a Trump transition team official.

The Trump administration enacted regulations during his first term that would have reduced the annual amount of H-1B visas granted. However, the rules were ultimately overturned in court.

The MAGA community has been divided on the program in recent days, with some groups supporting the visas and others claiming that it permits foreigners to work in the United States.

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, two Trump supporters, said in online posts that the immigration program is advantageous to the nation.

In a post this week, Musk said that there are simply too few extremely brilliant and driven engineers in the United States.

Born in South Africa and now a naturalized citizen of the United States, Musk claimed that the H-1B program is the reason he and other founders of SpaceX and Tesla are in the country.

He wrote in a post, “Take a big step back and F— YOURSELF in the face.” I shall wage war on this matter, which is beyond your comprehension.

Musk then clarified that he was referring to vile, unrepentant racists within the Republican Party when he stated in a post to X that “those contemptible fools must be removed from the Republican Party.”

Musk’s postings were in response to a post by Dilbert comic creator Scott Adams, who said that MAGA was copying Democrats’ strategy of losing elections while feeling good about themselves.

In a different post to X, Ramaswamy, who is collaborating with Musk to head Trump’s nonprofit Department of Government Efficiency, stated that he expects American culture would once again value diligence over indolence.

In a post on X on Friday, Ramaswamy also stated that the H-1B visa policy is severely flawed and ought to be replaced with one that prioritizes de-bureaucratization, pro-competitiveness (no indentured service to a single company), and picking the best of the best—not a lottery.

Republican far-right activists Steve Bannon and Laura Loomer were among those who opposed H-1B visas. Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, also voiced her opinion, claiming that the IT sector’s default reliance on foreign labor for its demands is lazy.

She wrote on Xon Friday, “Invest in our American workforce.” Before we look elsewhere, we must invest in Americans.

After more than a dozen conservatives, including Loomer, claimed that their blue badge verification on X had been canceled for criticizing Musk over his immigration views, Musk was also accused of censoring his detractors.
