Drive Sober or Face the Consequences: Chautauqua County Joins Statewide STOP-DWI Campaign

(WNY News Now) Law enforcement is stepping up their efforts to prevent drunk driving this Christmas season, with an emphasis on increasing awareness and saving lives.

Local law enforcement agencies and STOP-DWI Coordinators are taking part in the statewide STOP-DWI Holiday Season High Visibility Engagement Campaign, Chautauqua County Sheriff James B. Quattrone stated today. Starting on December 11, 2024, and ending on January 1, 2025, this program seeks to lower the number of impaired driving incidents that occur during one of the busiest travel times of the year.

The program, which is a component of a larger initiative by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and STOP-DWI NY, uses more public awareness and exposure to discourage driving while intoxicated. Throughout the state, similar efforts are held on Labor Day, Memorial Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, the Fourth of July, and the Super Bowl.

Drivers are urged to make use of services such as the Have a Plan mobile app, which can be found at www.stopdwi.org/mobileapp and provides options for finding safe rides home.
