Palestinian Authority suspends broadcast of Qatar’s Al Jazeera TV

The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported on Wednesday that the Palestinian Authority had temporarily suspended Qatar’s Al Jazeera television’s operations within the region, including its broadcasts, due to the network’s distribution of inflammatory material.

The decision was jointly decided by the ministers of culture, interior, and communications because the channel aired content that was misleading and inciting conflict, WAFA stated without going into specifics.

Although the order said that the decision was temporary, it made no mention of when it would cease.

Al Jazeera’s coverage of the weeks-long conflict between terrorist fighters and Palestinian security forces in the Jenin camp in the Israeli-occupied West Bank drew criticism from the Palestinian Authority last week.

According to a statement, Al Jazeera condemned the decision on Wednesday as an effort to dissuade it from covering the rapidly escalating events in the occupied territories.

It demanded that the Palestinian Authority reverse the ruling and permit its reporters to cover the West Bank without fear.

Since the Palestinian Authority does not have authority in Hamas-run Gaza, it was not anticipated that the decision would be put into effect there.

According to the Palestinian Authority’s ruling faction, Fatah, the broadcaster was causing division in both Palestine and our Arab motherland as a whole. Palestinians were urged not to collaborate with the network.

In September, the Israeli military attacked and closed Al Jazeera’s bureau in Ramallah, which is in the West Bank.

Because the station was a threat to Israeli security, Israel banned it from functioning and broadcasting in the country in May. The ban was later upheld by a court.
