Virgin Australia crew members allegedly raped and robbed in Fiji

According to the Fijian government on Thursday, police are looking into instances involving two crew members of the Australian airline Virgin Australia who were allegedly raped and stolen in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

According to a statement from Fiji Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew, the crew members were on a layover at the well-known tourist resort of Nadi before their scheduled departure the next day.

In a statement to Reuters, Virgin said it was aware of the reported incidents and that it had sent people to Fiji to offer support, but it did not elaborate.

According to Fiji police, the inquiry has so far revealed that several Virgin crew members visited a nightclub in Nadi.

Unfortunately, after leaving the nightclub and attempting to find their way back to the hotel, two crew members were allegedly raped and stolen from, according to Chew.

Fiji’s deputy prime minister and minister of tourism and civil aviation, Viliame Gavoka, stated in a statement that two Virgin crew members were impacted by two distinct alleged theft and sexual assault occurrences.

Gavoka added that the investigation was still underway and that a suspect who was known to the police for the claimed sexual assault had been questioned. He also expressed sadness over the alleged crimes.

According to the country’s tourism website, Fiji, an island nation in the South Pacific, welcomed 76,845 tourists in November, the majority of whom came from Australia, New Zealand, and North America.

Although it acknowledged the reports, Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade told Reuters it would not comment.
