Allegany County Democrats Team Up with ACASA to Support Unhoused Residents This MLK Day

(WNY News Now) The Allegany County Democratic Committee and ACASA collaborate to gather necessary winter supplies for the county’s homeless population in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Belmont, New York The Allegany County Democratic Committee (ACDC) is pleased to announce its collaboration with the Allegany Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (ACASA) as part of their 2025 Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service project. This collaboration will help give essential assistance to the county’s homeless population. These groups are working together to gather winter necessities in order to help those who are suffering from inclement weather.

A federal holiday known as a National Day of Service, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is observed annually on the third Monday in January to inspire all Americans to volunteer in remembrance of Dr. King’s life and legacy and to better their communities.

According to Karen Ash, chair of the ACDC, our members recently attended a conference on poverty in Allegany County, which reaffirmed the fact that homelessness and low wealth frequently coexist. The local figures are startling. Through our partnership with ACASA, we seek to raise awareness of this problem and encourage policymakers to focus their time and resources on developing workable solutions.
