‘Jeopardy!’ player with bad blood over botched Taylor Swift question shakes it off for redemption

Fortunately, when a Taylor Swift clue appeared on the board, this “Jeopardy!” player didn’t draw a blank space again.

In an episode that aired Monday night, contestant Drew Goins correctly responded to a question about Swift, minutes after expressing his chagrin at having previously misunderstood a question about the most well-known performer in the world.

The program is presently running a tournament called “Second Chance,” which gives contestants who lost their first “Jeopardy!” appearance another chance to earn a spot in the franchise’s “Tournament of Champions.”

Additionally, during the player introduction portion on Monday night, Goins recounted how, much to the dismay of his Swiftie brother, who had prepared him on the subject, he had failed to answer a question about Swift during his previous “Jeopardy!” appearance.

“The first of Taylor Swift’s record 4 AOTY Grammys was for this album in 2010” was the $800 “Grammy Album of the Year” response in an episode that aired on September 25.

It was “Fearless,” as Swift’s most loyal fans will always remember, but Goins and his two opponents in that match didn’t ring in.

The competitor, who lives in Hawaii and works for The Washington Post, pointed out Goins’ brother, who was in the studio audience for the show that aired on Monday.

In the category of “Albums,” Goins was in charge of the board for the last response of the first round when the following response appeared on the screen: “In 2014 Taylor Swift gave us this album named for a different year.”

The crowd burst out laughing in the middle of the scene, knowing that Goins’ greatest hopes of overcoming his past humiliation and repairing his reputation were going to be realized.

Drew’s rendition did not let us down; he buzzed in first and exultantly exclaimed the right query: “What is ‘1989’?!”

The audience went crazy, and host Ken Jennings echoed Goins’ fervor by announcing that there will be no more animosity between the competitor and Swifties.

“Redemption for Drew!” Goins, who won the game and continued to play in the tournament, heard Jennings say this.
