Photos: Flames engulf Southern California as crews battle to control Palisades Fire

A brushfire flared in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles on Tuesday, forcing tens of thousands of Southern Californians to evacuate their homes.

The Palisades Fire began as a brushfire on Tuesday morning and spread to around 3,000 acres by Tuesday evening, driven by strong Santa Ana winds and dry weather.

Smoke pillars towered over the seaside area in dramatic photos. People were apprehended as they fled the area on foot as flames were seen approaching.
