(WNY News Now) OLEAN, NY Local fire agencies responded quickly to a major garage fire that spread to several buildings in Olean early this morning. On January 10, 2025, at 4:38 AM, the City of Olean Fire Department was called to several structures that were on fire close to 212 King Street.
When firefighters arrived at 4:42 AM, they discovered a sizable garage behind 218 King Street completely engulfed in flames, and the fire was starting to spread to a nearby garage. To put out the fire, firefighters used many 2-1/2 hose lines to attack it right away. The fire was contained in about forty minutes, and further efforts were directed toward avoiding more damage to the nearby buildings. The fire was deemed completely contained by 5:20 AM.
The Olean Police Department, Trans Am Ambulance Service, and the air truck from the Portville Fire Department were on the site to support the City of Olean Fire Department. During the incident, the Volunteer Fire Departments of Allegany and Weston Mills were ready to provide extra assistance.
Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
