DENVER Rape and sex trafficking charges have been brought against an ex-cop who was sacked from his position as an investigator at the U.S. Center for SafeSport for allegedly diverting money taken from a cocaine investigation.
According to a news release from the district attorney’s office, Jason Krasley, a former Allentown, Pennsylvania, police officer, was arrested Friday and charged with felony rape and involuntary sexual servitude for alleged crimes committed during his tenure on the department from 2011 to 2015.
Krasley left the department in 2021 to work for the SafeSport Center, where he was fired last year soon after it was revealed that he had been jailed for allegedly taking $5,500 from a cocaine bust he assisted in while on the force.
The recent arrest raises the question of how Krasley got past what center officials claim is a stringent screening procedure they employ when hiring individuals entrusted with obtaining private information related to sex-abuse cases.
In order to address sex-abuse issues in Olympic sports from the top level to the grassroots level, the Denver-based center was founded in 2017. Its investigation team includes 36 members as of the end of last year; some of those roles have been filled by police detectives who handle comparable cases.
SafeSport CEO Ju Riese Colon sent a statement to The Associated Press via email, saying, “I am horrified that a former employee has been accused of such heinous acts in his previous role as a police officer.” Our top goal is to protect athletes, thus we hold every employee to the greatest standards.
Krasley handled two investigations, one of which was turned over to another investigator following his arrest on theft charges, according to information obtained by the AP. In the other, a SafeSport employee responded via email to the claimant’s inquiry about whether her case may be reopened following the arrest, stating that those matters are already being reviewed before the demands and public attention.
According to Colon, the center has hired a third party to conduct an audit of the cases Krasley handled.
In light of the fresh accusations, we are consulting with subject matter specialists to decide what further steps should be taken, she said.
In addition to minor criminal coercion, Krasley is charged with felony kidnapping, involuntary deviant sexual relations, and witness intimidation.
James Burke, Krasley’s lawyer, told lehighvalleylive.com that Krasley flatly disputes the accusations. AP left a voicemail at Burke’s office, but Burke did not answer.
Additionally, Krasley, 47, is mentioned in a whistleblower complaint that two Allentown officers filed last year, alleging pervasive corruption within the department.
Current Allentown officer Kevin Weaver, who has been placed on administrative leave, was also arrested and charged on Friday with felony rape and involuntary sexual servitude.
