The city of Philadelphia During Philadelphia’s wild-card playoff game, A.J. Brown came up with a creative way to kill time while sitting on the bench.
The wide receiver for the Eagles looked at an inspirational title and skipped the playbook. Brown flipped through Jim Murphy’s Inner Excellence, ignoring the action on the field with careless abandon.
With just one grab for 10 yards in Sunday night’s 22–10 victory over the Green Bay Packers, Brown had time for some light reading.
According to the book’s cover, it will train your mind for exceptional performance and the best life has to offer.
Brown continued, “Y all caught me that time,” while stating that he frequently reads on the sidelines.
According to Brown, who caught 67 passes for 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns this season, the book’s contents are helpful because, to him, football is 90% mental and 10% physical.
“It’s how I refocus if I score a touchdown or drop a pass,” Brown explained. I always start the book at the beginning. It says that all you need to do is have a clear conscience, a clear mind, and the knowledge that nothing else matters—positive or bad. You’re not afraid to take chances. Additionally, it states that humility prevents embarrassment.

Murphy is a former minor league outfielder who coaches professional athletes’ mental talents, according to his website bio. Murphy claimed that another Eagles player he worked with suggested the book to Brown.
Murphy told The Associated Press that his phone began exploding with texts claiming that his book appeared on an NFL playoff game when he was watching a rerun of the Orange Bowl between Penn State and Notre Dame.
Murphy stated over the phone from Dallas that it’s quite unusual to read it during the game. He had previously been reading it on the sidelines, as I witnessed. I came across a photo of it. I never had a player in the game read it, so I thought, “Oh, that’s really cool.”
Brown and possibly the other Eagles preferred the book Inner Excellence.
On Sunday, the Birds had a better story: Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, and one of the NFL’s most stingy defenses secured another home playoff game in a season they believe would conclude happily with a Super Bowl victory.
Brown declared, “I’m just going to play free and stay free.”
Later, Brown posted a picture of the book on social media, highlighting a few sections in yellow.
He’s never read to me. Hurts remarked, “I’ve seen the book in his hands.” Each person finds their flow in a different way and has their own thing. That’s our method of choice.
The following chapter? Next Sunday, the NFC East champion Eagles will play the winner of Monday night’s game between Minnesota and the Los Angeles Rams at the Linc in a divisional round matchup.
