When he takes office, President-elect Donald Trump plans to sign a record number of executive actions. He also stated that his first week in office will include mass deportations and a visit to Los Angeles to inspect the damage caused by the wildfire.
Just two days before he is expected to take office, Trump spoke extensively over the phone on Saturday with NBC News Meet the Press moderator Kristen Welker about his inauguration and early administration plans.
Trump stated that the words “fairness” and “unity and strength” will be the main themes of his inauguration address.
because you must treat individuals equally. You can’t simply declare, “Oh, everything will be great.” We spent four years in hell with these folks, you know. Therefore, something ought to be done about it, you know. We shouldn’t have it happen, and you can’t have it.
A dangerously cold forecast forced Trump to postpone his inaugural ceremony until Friday, moving it indoors to the U.S. Capitol. The inauguration will take place indoors for the first time since 1985.
Here are other quotes from Trump’s NBC News interview:
Moving the inauguration indoors
With a high of approximately 20 degrees and windy conditions predicted, Trump said he is happy that the inauguration ceremony was not held outside.
He said, “I believe we made the right choice.” The cold was forecast to be particularly severe, and I believe that many individuals, the crowds, and everything else would have been in danger. Therefore, I believe we made the proper choice. Now we’ll be in great comfort.
Trump’s followers will be able to watch the inauguration ceremony inside Capitol One Arena, where he will also conduct a rally on Sunday afternoon, he announced on social media on Friday.
Additionally, Trump told NBC News that his parade would be quite lovely.
He went on to say that the parade will be lovely and would take place indoors, more or less.
Barron, Trump’s youngest child, entered the room during the phone chat. Trump gave his son a lot of credit for helping him with his internet outreach.
Trump claimed that his kid had introduced him to people he had never heard of before and that he was extremely excellent. The new wave is it. He was also quite helpful.
Mass deportations
Trump reaffirmed that his first goal would be the mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. He stated that they would start soon, although he did not specify the city or date.
“I can’t say which cities because things are evolving,” he added, adding that it would start extremely early and swiftly. Furthermore, I don’t believe we want to reveal the city. You will witness it directly.
The criminals must be removed from our nation. And I believe you would concur. How anyone could not agree is beyond me.
Executive actions
Trump stated that although he has not yet decided how many executive actions he will sign after assuming office, he thinks the number will be unprecedented.
Trump responded, “Well, at least in that category,” when asked if it will be more than 100.
“Immediately following this [inauguration] speech, I will be signing a record number of documents,” he continued.
TikTok
The Supreme Court affirmed a bipartisan statute that forbids TikTok in the US until its Beijing-based parent company, ByteDance, sells it to a buyer who is not based in China, and the ban on the well-known video app is scheduled to take effect on Sunday.
The administration of President Joe Biden has indicated that it will not enforce the ban and will let Trump, who takes office the next day, handle its implementation.
Trump hinted at a 90-day extension to NBC News.
He stated, “I think that would be definitely an option that we look at.” Given that it is acceptable, the 90-day extension is something that will probably be implemented. It’s fitting, you know. We must examine it closely. This is a huge situation.
“I’ll probably announce it on Monday if I decide to do that,” he continued.
Los Angeles wildfires
Trump stated he will probably travel to Los Angeles the following week to discuss the damage caused by the wildfire.
“We’re going to be demanding that the water be released from the north into the lower parts of California,” he said, adding that his team would be examining the matter from several angles.
Trump stated that at the end of the week, he will most likely be going out there.
Actually, I was planning to go yesterday, but I reasoned that it would be preferable if I went in the role of president. “I suspect it’s a little bit more appropriate,” he continued.
He stated that he has not yet had a conversation with Governor Gavin Newsom of California. Since the flames started, the two men have been at odds; Trump blamed the fire on the prospective 2028 presidential candidate, while Newsom accused Trump of circulating false information.
Middle East peace deal
The Israeli government accepted a ceasefire and hostage-release agreement early on Saturday. In return for 1,904 Palestinian inmates and detainees, 33 Israeli hostages detained in Gaza are expected to be released.
Trump responded, “Well, we’re going to see very soon, and it better hold,” when NBC News asked him how certain he was that the hostages would be freed.
He said, “Just keep doing what you have to do,” to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This must come to an end for you. We want it to stop, but we must continue to fulfill our obligations.
Trump stated that he would be meeting with Netanyahu soon, but he did not elaborate.
Trump also stated that his administration will use good governance to ensure that the ceasefire lasts.
Show respect. Respect for the United States must return, and it must do so quickly. But the main word I use, he said, is respect. It will hold if they treat us with respect. Hell is going to break out if they don’t respect us.
