‘E-L-G-S-E-S!’ Philly mayor flubs Eagles chant ahead of snowy playoff game

At some point, we’ve all found ourselves having trouble pronouncing the letters E-A-G-L-E-S during an unplanned Eagles chant. Simply said, it wasn’t captured on camera.

In the hours leading up to the Philadelphia Eagles’ win over the Los Angeles Rams in the snowy playoffs, Mayor Cherelle Parker had her chance to muck up the chant during a news conference about weather preparations.

The first-term Democrat declared, “Listen, we have to do this,” as he stood outside with municipal officials after deciding that attendance at the Eagles game on January 19, 2025, was crucial.

Listen to all of you sing. Before leading the audience in a chorus of “E-L-G-S-E-S, Eagles!” Parker, sporting a scarf and a Kelly green beanie, says You can hear some of the crowd yelling the correct spelling.

Come on, birds! Before leaving the podium, she says this.

The blunder appeared to have gone unnoticed on Sunday, but it began to circulate on social media in the hours following the Eagles’ advancement to the NFC Championship Game.

At an unrelated event in Kensington on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Parker laughed and remarked, “We don’t promise perfection, and I’m so happy that I never have, especially after I couldn’t spell Eagles right.” Everyone in the room laughed at the remark.

Before Sunday’s game against the division opponent from Washington, we will have to wait and watch if Parker will have an opportunity to redeem the Eagles chant.
