Following the July 6 collision that claimed the lives of Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson and two other people, a Maryland woman was taken into custody and charged with 13 charges, including negligent vehicular manslaughter, negligent murder, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
When Cori Clingman reportedly caused the three-car collision in Prince George’s County, Maryland, she was charged with driving too fast. According to a July press release from state police, Clingman and two other people in her vehicle were unharmed.
Police say Clingman, of Upper Marlboro, hit a maroon Dodge Charger and then a Chevrolet Impala while attempting to change lanes. The Charger went off the road and struck many tree stumps before coming to a stop due to the power of the collision.
According to authorities, Jackson, 24, passed away at the scene while seated in the Charger’s front passenger seat. The driver, 23-year-old Isaiah Hazel, was also declared dead at the site. After being transported to the hospital, a third individual, 24-year-old Anthony Lytton, passed away from his wounds.
The Impala’s driver declined on-scene medical care and was unharmed.
Three incredible young men lost their life in the crash, according to Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy.
At a press conference Thursday to announce Clingman’s arrest, she stated that each of them lives was unique, significant, and a devastating loss for their families and our community.
According to Braveboy, Clingman may spend up to 30 years behind bars if found guilty. Clingman’s lawyer was not listed in online court documents.
Jackson was selected by the Vikings in the fourth round of the NFL draft and started at cornerback for the University of Oregon. According to a social media post from the athletic department of Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School, he went there with Hazel and Lytton. Braveboy stated that they had known one other for a very long time and that she thinks Clingman went to high school with them as well.
