January 25, Frankfurt For the second time in as many weeks, Elon Musk spoke out in favor of the far-right party during a surprise appearance at the AfD (Alternative fuer Deutschland) election campaign rally in Halle, eastern Germany, on Saturday.
Alongside party head Alice Weidel, Musk gave a live video link speech to a crowd of 4,500 people about safeguarding the German people and preserving German culture.
Musk stated that it is beneficial to be proud of German culture and values and to avoid losing them due to multiculturalism that dilutes everything.
The U.S. billionaire caused a stir last week when, during the inauguration celebrations for U.S. President Donald Trump, he made a gesture that was compared online to a Nazi salute.
In reference to Germany’s Nazi past, he stated on Saturday that youngsters shouldn’t be held accountable for the transgressions of their parents, much less their great-grandparents.
He asserted that we must move past the excessive emphasis on past guilt.
Musk has previously blasted German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on X, where he discussed speech suppression under the German government.
Scholz, for his part, stated on Tuesday that he opposes the use of free speech for extreme right viewpoints.
“I’m very excited for the AfD, I think you’re really the best hope for Germany… fight for a great future for Germany,” Musk said when he urged people to vote for the far-right party.
Weidel praised him, urged her supporters to restore Germany’s glory, and said that the Republicans were restoring America’s greatness.
In an interview with Weidel on X earlier this month, Musk raised concerns about election tampering.
Anti-far right demonstrators were out in force on Saturday despite the winter weather, with up to 20,000 people in Cologne and some 100,000 gathered outside Berlin’s Brandenburg gate. People of all ages were seen with vibrant umbrellas.
