As Trump returns to office, ‘SNL’ wonders aloud if America has its first elected king

On Saturday night, “Saturday Night Live” returned to more biting satire with a history lesson after marking the November election with a smirking kiss of President Donald Trump’s ring.

This time, James Austin Johnson’s cocky, rambling Trump shut down Broadway star Lin-Manuel Miranda, who played a rapping founding father in “Hamilton” in the original production.

For the cold open, Miranda’s Hamilton appeared alongside a group of colonial figures wearing wigs.

“What matters is the nation we build,” he stated. “Because all men are equal in America.” America, not England. We’re working on the follow-up. We will have leaders, but there won’t be just one. There will never be a king in America.

Trump, played by Johnson, cut in and took charge.

“Never say never,” he added, “I’m kidding, of course, but I’m not in many respects. I’ve entered my kingly age.

He discussed Trump’s attempts to eliminate federal diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) jobs.

His words were, “DEI is over, it’s dead,” “Workplaces must go back to looking like the TV show ‘The Office.”

After a series of temporal shifts, he finally landed on his inauguration, which he called “a tremendous success.”

“It was inside due to cold and fear,” he stated. However, there were many unexpected visitors. similar to Melania. It was pleasant.

Trump’s Johnson yelled at the billionaires present.

“Zuck. Bezos. Tim Apple. Elon, of course,” he added. “Elon is loved by us. I don’t want him in my life, though, to paraphrase some of his own kids.

Then, while Miranda continued to retain his place in the background, Trump started to pay more attention to her.

Trump pointed at the colonial figures with his thumb, saying, “What a strange way to dress, huh? a bit tangy.

He later observed Miranda’s motionless posture on stage.

He remarked, “Oh look at Lin,” “Observe his intense desire to do a rap…. He is not allowed to do it. Oh, that would have been a hit with the audience.

Trump kept his attention on Miranda’s shelf of honors. Miranda is an Oscar short of becoming one of the select few EGOT winners who have at least one of each of the Emmy, Grammy, and Tony awards.

Trump tried to get Miranda to crack, and ultimately succeeded. “He’s in sniffing distance of an EGOT and he’s got to stand there until I’m done,” he remarked. Lin-Manuel Miranda Cosgrove: “Lindy, Lindy, Lindy, Lindy. He’s there.”

Timoth e Chalamet, who played Bob Dylan in “A Complete Unknown,” was the musical guest and host. He received an Oscar nomination for his performance. Chalamet sang a number of Dylan tunes.
