Disappearance of 29-year-old Texas chef remains a mystery one year later

Harley Morris disappeared a year ago, and his family is still trying to find out what happened.

At the time, the 29-year-old was residing in Tyler, Texas, with his father. Tyler and his father were chefs at Tyler’s Prime 102 steakhouse.

Wendi Attaway-Morris, Harley’s mother, was in Florida when her son disappeared, and Dateline met with her. Although she and her spouse are no longer together, she says her son and his father have a unique bond. He had a really close friendship with his father. She said that they were best friends. They lived together and worked together, you know.

When Harley got off work on the evening of January 20, 2024, he and a few of his pals headed to a few bars in the downtown area. Wendi said this was just part of her son’s normal Saturday night routine. They remained out late because it was their late night and they had Sunday off. I think they also had Monday off. So, she explained, he didn’t have to report to work until Tuesday.

Wendi said it was normal of Harley to not have his cell phone with him that evening. She claimed that he never carried his phone with him. Aside from his video games, he was completely disconnected.

Wendi said Harley went to a couple pubs before heading to the 50 Grand Club with some friends. She claims to have had conversations with a few of the individuals who were present with her son that evening. Around three in the morning, Harley may be seen on CCTV exiting the 50 Grand Club alone in the parking lot. After that, he can be seen on a Ring camera and again while strolling down the street. Despite describing the footage as being extremely hazy, Wendi claims she was able to identify it as Harley.

Harley Morris was last seen at that time. The Tyler Police Department included a frame of the parking lot video in a post on Harley’s disappearance on their Facebook page on January 24, 2024, but they have not made the clip public. According to the post, Harley Warren Morris is the subject of a missing person’s investigation by the Tyler Police Department. He is a 29-year-old man who was last spotted leaving the 50 Grand Club at 3:00 a.m. on 1/21/24 and heading north in the 2100 block of N Grand Ave by himself.

More details were added to the post a few days later. Harley Morris is still being sought by the Tyler Police Department. The post states, “On January 21st, between 3:00 and 7:00 am, we are asking residents and businesses north of Gentry Pkwy to North Loop 323 to check any cameras or doorbell cameras and report to us if you see anybody walking.” Additionally, they encouraged people to look around for the Prime 102 cap, black sneakers, and black/grey sweatshirt that Harley was known to be wearing that evening.

Dateline has repeatedly requested an update on the investigation from the Tyler Police Department, but has not received a response as of yet.

Wendi claims that Harley’s father filed the missing person’s report. Dateline attempted to contact Harley’s father for an interview but was unable. In honor of the one-year anniversary of his son’s disappearance, Bill Morris did speak with a local television station last week. The toughest part, he remarked with tears in his eyes, is that nothing has happened. He now uses Harley’s knives at work, the heartbroken father informed the broadcaster. He also mentioned that I now sleep under his blankets at home.

Wendi claims that as soon as she found out her son was missing, she got in her car and headed straight for Texas. Since then, she has relocated there and spends her time looking for her son. Numerous searches of the area have been conducted by Harley’s friends and family, but none of them have found anything.

According to Wendi, Harley possesses a quality that would enable his potential to be readily recognized. Harley was shot during what his mother characterized as a road rage episode involving him and his mother when he was still residing in Florida. Wendi claims that because the bullet could not be extracted, it remains embedded in her son’s hip. According to her, “I’m trying to get people together with metal detectors because I think that’s our best hope right now.”

Wendi has resorted to social media in an attempt to raise notice of her son’s situation. She is in charge of running the Help Find Harley Morris page, which shares information and updates regarding Harley’s absence. “I’m so desperate to show his face,” she remarked. She also launched the Hearts for Harley page, a public charity established in his memory.

As Wendi continues her search for answers, she cherishes the memories she has of her son. “Every year, Harley and I enjoy going fishing,” she remarked. He was genuinely gregarious and nice. He enjoyed talking into your ear.

Today would be Harley Morris’ 30th birthday. His eyes are brown, and his hair is long and dirty-blond. He weights 160 pounds and is 6 3 inches. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered by his family for information that identifies his location.
