Winter Weather Advisory: Snow and Strong Winds Expected Across Western New York

(WNY News Now)Buffalo, New York.From 6 p.m. on January 28 to 6 p.m. on January 29, Buffalo’s National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of Western New York.During this period, residents are advised to be ready for dangerous travel conditions, windy conditions, and snow-covered roadways.


What to Expect


  • Snowfall:

    Total snow accumulations are expected to reach

    3 to 7 inches

    over the 24-hour period.

  • Winds:

    Gusts of up to

    40 mph

    may cause areas of blowing and drifting snow, further reducing visibility.

  • Counties Affected:

    • Allegany County (3 6 inches of snow).
    • Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Northern Erie, Genesee, Livingston, and Ontario Counties (3 7 inches of snow).

Timing and Impacts

It is anticipated that the advisory would result in slick, snow-covered roads and greatly diminished visibility, especially during:

  • The

    Tuesday evening commute

    (January 28).
  • The

    Wednesday morning commute

    (January 29).


Safety Recommendations

On impacted roads, drivers should reduce their speed, keep a greater following distance, and use caution.
