Today, Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced that Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan had given Buffalo resident Jay M. Mudra, 30, a five-year probationary term. Mudra was sentenced after entering a guilty plea to charges of Third Degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Fourth Degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, all of which are Class B felonies.

The charges are the result of an investigation conducted by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office on May 16, 2024. During a traffic stop in the Town of Grand Island near Riverwoods Drive and Timberlink Drive at around 7:47 p.m., deputies carried out a search warrant on Mudra. Investigators found a suspected amount of cocaine inside the car, which the Erie County Central Police Services laboratory subsequently verified.

Authorities carried out a second search warrant at Mudra’s home on East River Road in Grand Island later that night, at 8:39 p.m. Additional amounts of suspected cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, scales, and packing materials were found by detectives during the search. The cocaine was identified as an illegal narcotic after the goods were sent for additional testing.

In October 2024, Mudra entered a guilty plea to the charges. With help from Homeland Security Investigations, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Intelligence Unit carried out the investigation.

DA Keane praised Homeland Security Investigations and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Intelligence Unit for their efforts in this investigation.
