(WNY News Now) MACHIAS, NYA Sheriff Eric A. Butler said a 63-year-old Ashford man was taken into custody in relation to an attempted assault and robbery that occurred earlier this month in the Town of Machias.
After an investigation into an alleged assault at a Sunset Dr. house in Machias on January 14, authorities arrested James K. Denaro on January 31, 2025, at around 10:24 a.m. Investigators found that Denaro attacked the victim with a knife and tried to rob them.
Denaro was charged with attempted first-degree robbery and second-degree assault and was processed and arraigned in the Town of Machias Court. He is expected to appear in court later for additional procedures after being remanded without bond to the Cattaraugus County Jail.
The accused is deemed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, just like everyone else who is accused of a crime.
