Suspect Arrested for Vehicle Theft and Aggravated DWI in Gowanda

Gowanda, New York (WNY News Now).According to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, a 25-year-old man was taken into custody on Sunday after he allegedly stole a car from a nearby pizzeria, crashed it, and then ran away while inebriated.

Deputies responded to a report of a stolen car at Capozzi’s Pizzeria on Jamestown Street in the Village of Gowanda on February 2, 2025, at 1:51 p.m. Reports of a collision involving a car that matched the stolen automobile’s description were sent to 9-1-1 dispatchers shortly afterward on Route 353 in Dayton. Before the police came, the driver had already left the area.

Deputies determined that Bransin R. John was the suspect after conducting an investigation. He was apprehended after being found at a nearby home. Given that John’s blood alcohol content (BAC) was.23, over three times the legal limit, authorities concluded he was inebriated.

In addition to numerous traffic and criminal counts, John is charged with Grand Larceny, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Mischief, and Aggravated DWI. He is expected to make his appearance in the Town of Dayton and Persia Courts at a later time after being released on appearance tickets.

The accused is deemed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, just like everyone else who is accused of a crime.
