About 100,000 eggs worth $40K stolen from trailer in Pennsylvania

According to Pennsylvania investigators, around 100,000 eggs were stolen from the rear of a distribution trailer.

According to a police complaint, the theft happened at Pete and Gerry’s Organics LLC in Greencastle at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Saturday. The value of the eggs is approximately $40,000.

On Tuesday, state police stated that the event was being investigated and provided no other information.

“Pete & Gerry s is aware of a recent incident in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and we are actively working with local law enforcement to investigate,” the provider of eggs stated in a statement. We are dedicated to finding a speedy solution because we take this issue seriously. We are unable to speak further on this subject due to the ongoing investigation.

The theft occurs at a time when egg prices are rising.

The average cost of a dozen eggs in the US increased by 50% in the past year. Based on data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the surge seems to have accelerated since President Donald Trump was elected in November.

According to market analysts and economists, the price surge is being caused by the avian flu in addition to the usual spike in consumer demand around the holidays.
