(WNY News Now) – Explore the wonders of autumn at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center with guided programs, scenic trails, and family-friendly events in Albany County’s vibrant outdoor setting.
Five Rivers Environmental Education Center in Delmar invites visitors of all ages to enjoy a full lineup of fall events and scenic trails. Located at 56 Game Farm Road in Albany County, Five Rivers offers a space to immerse yourself in nature’s seasonal beauty. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset, while the visitor center operates Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays. While the grounds remain accessible on Thanksgiving, November 28, the visitor center will be closed.
Autumn Adventures and Events:
Enjoy a self-guided trail exploration or participate in one of the center’s many events. Through November 26, the “Nature in the Greater Capital District” photo exhibit showcases the work of 15 photographers, capturing the region’s diverse wildlife and landscapes. The exhibit is open during regular visitor center hours, though some portions may be closed temporarily during scheduled programs.
Every Thursday until December 19 (excluding Thanksgiving), young visitors are invited to “Fall Wildlife Tales,” a story time for children ages 2-6. After each story, children and their families can walk the trails to observe wildlife firsthand. For bird enthusiasts, the I BIRD NY: Early Birders program on November 14 offers a morning of birdwatching with a trail walk guided by birding experts.
Special Events for All Ages:
On Saturday, November 23, guests can add a personal touch to the “Gratitude Tree” by sharing messages of thankfulness during visitor center hours. That same day, families can join the “Nature Walk and Song” event at 10 a.m. along the Old Field Trail, or learn to support local wildlife through winter with the “Make Your Yard A Winter Oasis for Wildlife” workshop at 2 p.m.
Nature lovers can deepen their connection with the outdoors on Saturday, November 30, by joining the “Nature Drawing” workshop from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for a lesson in simple sketching techniques. Later that day, a guided walk along the Vlomankill Trail at 2 p.m. offers a peaceful journey through hemlock groves along a gurgling stream.
