Donald Trump has revealed plans to significantly reduce U.S. government spending, aiming for cuts totaling around $1 trillion. In a post on his social platform, Truth Social, the American President shared details of a recent meeting with the Speaker of the House and several conservative lawmakers.
“Today I had a very good meeting with the Speaker of the House and some of our more conservative members, all great people. I let them know that I AM FOR A BIG POWERFUL SPENDING CUT! WE ARE GOING TO DO A REDUCTION, hopefully over $1 trillion,” Trump wrote.
He added that the proposed cuts would be included in “one big, beautiful bill,” and emphasized the urgency of passing the legislation. “I, along with members of the House and Senators, will be pushing very hard for these massive spending cuts, but we need to get the bill approved NOW. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN,” he concluded.
Tariffs and Defense Spending
This announcement comes shortly after Trump unveiled a sweeping plan to impose reciprocal tariffs on nearly all U.S. trade partners. The tariffs range from 10% to 49%, varying by country.
The initial wave of tariffs began on April 5, with higher rates, including a steep 104% tariff on Chinese goods, taking effect on April 9.
The tariff policy triggered a decline in U.S. stock markets, but Trump remains steadfast, likening the strategy to “medicine” for the American economy.
Reports indicate that around 70 countries have reached out to Washington seeking negotiations on the new trade measures.
Simultaneously, Trump has signaled a major increase in military spending.
As reported by RBC-Ukraine, the administration has approved a $1 trillion defense budget, reinforcing Trump’s commitment to bolstering national security even as he pursues deep cuts in other areas of federal spending.
