A Career Rooted in Commitment and Connection
Bill Jartz began his career at WBAY-TV in 1983, initially joining as a sports reporter. Over the years, he earned a reputation for his warm, approachable style and genuine connection with viewers. In 1998, he transitioned to a news anchor role, quickly becoming a trusted face in households across northeastern Wisconsin.
“Anchoring the news here is more than just a job. It’s about being a part of this community and telling the stories that matter to the people who live here,” Jartz said during a recent interview.
Defining Moments on and Off the Air
Reflecting on his career, Jartz highlights several defining moments that left lasting impressions on him and the community.
One standout experience was WBAY’s coverage of Super Bowl XXXI in 1997, when the Green Bay Packers captured their first Super Bowl title in decades. Jartz was on the ground in New Orleans, anchoring live coverage and witnessing firsthand the excitement and pride radiating from Packers fans.
Another key moment was reporting on the 2000 Brown County vote on the half-cent sales tax, which helped fund improvements to Lambeau Field, the Packers’ legendary home stadium. “That vote was pivotal for the future of the Packers and this entire region,” Jartz recalled. “It was a privilege to cover such an important event.”
Beyond high-profile news, Jartz’s commitment to community involvement has been a hallmark of his career. He has served as emcee for charitable events like the CP Telethon and Make-A-Wish’s Gourmet Wishes, dedicating time and energy to causes close to his heart.
Recognition for Dedication and Service
Bill Jartz’s contributions have been widely recognized. In 2022, he received the Heart of Gold Lifetime Achievement Award and the Governor’s Service Award, honors that celebrate his dedication both on air and in community service.
The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association named him a Local Broadcast Legend in 2024, praising his “unmatched professionalism and deep connection with viewers.”

What’s Next for Bill Jartz?
Though retiring from the anchor desk, Jartz’s involvement with Green Bay is far from over. He will continue his role as the public address announcer at Lambeau Field, sharing the excitement of Packers games with fans in the stadium.
In addition, he has been nominated to join the Green Bay Packers Board of Directors and currently serves on the Packers Hall of Fame Board, continuing his lifelong connection with the team and the community.
