A shocking broad-daylight robbery left a 70-year-old jewelry store employee injured and a Staten Island neighborhood rattled. The violent incident occurred around 3:55 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Sunrise Fine Jewelry, located on New Dorp Lane in Staten Island, New York.
According to the New York City Police Department (NYPD), two unidentified suspects entered the store and immediately turned violent. One of the attackers struck the elderly female worker in the head with a blunt object, leaving her bleeding on the floor. The assailants then smashed open a display case and made off with an estimated $5,000 worth of jewelry before fleeing on foot.
Surveillance footage captured part of the crime, which is now being reviewed by investigators. The NYPD released a statement describing the suspects as males with dark complexions, both dressed entirely in black clothing and sunglasses. One of the suspects was also seen wearing latex gloves, suggesting the robbery may have been premeditated.
The injured woman, who was working at the store alone during the time of the incident, was quickly transported by emergency responders to Staten Island University Hospital’s North Campus, where she is currently in stable condition.
Neighborhood in Shock
Local residents and business owners expressed concern and fear after the robbery. Many said they were shocked that such a brutal act could take place on a busy commercial strip in broad daylight.
“I’ve been here for 12 years, and I’ve never seen anything like this,” said one nearby shopkeeper. “She’s a sweet lady. Everyone around here knows her.”
The NYPD’s 122nd Precinct has increased patrols in the area in response to the crime and is actively investigating any leads that could identify the suspects. Officers are canvassing the neighborhood, checking surveillance from nearby businesses, and asking witnesses to come forward with information.

Public Asked to Help
Authorities are urging the public to provide any information that could help identify the suspects or lead to an arrest. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS or by visiting the official Crime Stoppers website.
