(WNY News Now) – A 17-year-old was issued a court appearance ticket after police responded to a report of an airsoft gun on the grounds of Falconer Central School.
Ellicott, N.Y. – On November 12, a 17-year-old student at Falconer Central School was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property after officers from the Town of Ellicott Police Department responded to a suspicious situation report. The report indicated that the juvenile might be in possession of an airsoft gun on the school’s grounds.
Upon arrival, officers located the juvenile, who willingly turned over the airsoft gun to police. Authorities confirmed that the airsoft gun had remained outside the school building and was never displayed or used on campus. While an airsoft gun is not a traditional firearm, it is still classified as a weapon when found on school property, making possession a violation of state law.
Following the incident, the juvenile was issued an appearance ticket to appear in Ellicott court at a future date, where the case will be reviewed. No injuries or threats to student safety were reported. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
