Russia claimed Wednesday that it has moved more than 70 animals from its zoo in Moscow, including two brown bears and an African lion, to a zoo in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea.
According to the authorities, the animals were a gift from Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Korean people.
The creatures were flown to the Pyongyang Central Zoo with veterinarians from the Moscow Zoo under the supervision of Alexander Kozlov, Russia’s minister of natural resources.
Images released by the Russian authorities featured Kozlov being given a tour of the Korean zoo by local officials and a white cockatoo traveling in a crate.
In April, the Pyongyang Central Zoo received avian donations from Russia, including parrots, eagles, and cranes.
Since Putin visited the nation in June and signed a treaty with Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, Pyongyang and Moscow have developed tighter ties.
During that visit, Kim gave Putin a pair of local Pungsan dogs as a gift. Additionally, the two alternated between driving a Russian-built Aurus limousine.
